Care Your Hair
(Hair Loss (Alopecia
It is acceptable for everyone to lose some hair, actually, we lose almost 100 hairs each day, the old hairs fall out and are replaced by new ones. However if the hair falls out and a new hair doesn't replace it, a person can become bald or have bald patches. Try changing your hairstyle or any medical treatment, if it isn't usefull go see a doctor. He / she will prescribe a drug to slow or stop hair loss and to help hair grow, however unfortunately this is not a guarantee and most hair losses are permanent.

There are however some new treatments for baldness the most common being hair transplants where hair is taken from the back of the head and transplanted into the top of the head - however it is recommended to discuss this option with a hair transplant specialist .
Hair transplants are done by removing tiny plugs bunches of hair from areas where the hair is still growing and placing them in the areas that are balding. This can cause minor scarring in the donor areas and carries a modest risk for skin infection. (It is also quiet painfull) The procedure usually requires multiple transplantation sessions and may be expensive. Results, however, are often excellent and permanent.
As balding is purely cosmetic there is no medical reason why it should be done. If you are comfortable with how you look then Hair weaving, hairpieces, (wig) or change of hairstyle may disguise the hair loss. This is usually the least expensive and safest approach for male baldness.
There are two main drugs used to treat male pattern baldness:
-
Minoxidil (Rogaine) is a solution that you apply directly to the scalp which stimulates the hair follicles and slows hair loss for many men, some men even grow new hair. However as soon as you stop using it the previous degree of hair loss returns.
-
Finasteride (Propecia, Proscar) is a prescription pill that inhibits the production of the male hormone dihydrotestosterone. Like minoxidil, however you are more likely to have slower hair loss than actual new hair growth. however , it is somewhat more effective than minoxidil. Also with this product the previous degree of hair loss returns when you stop taking the drug.
Please note, however, that none of these is guaranteed to work due to the unpredictable nature of alopecia areata. It is this uncertainty that offers opportunities for scamsters to make outlandish claims. The fact remains, there are no miracle cures for advanced forms of alopecia areata so sufferers may wish to consider other options such as head coverings and wigs
This does not mean that patients are without hope because, even in severe cases, hair can spontaneously start to grow again even after years of loss
